Recognize and describe patterns using words Find rules for patterns and describe them in words or using algebraic equations Simplify algebraic expressions Select appropriate algorithms for performing operations
Conceptual Framework
logic generalization, representation in the context of Scientific and Technical Innovations
Statements of Inquiry
Logic can be used to make generalizations
Factual
How does algebra represent values?
Conceptual
How do we work with numbers in different representations?
Debatable
What happens when mathematicians are unsuccessful?
Description
Students will understand that, using logic, number patterns can be generalized and then represented using algebraic expressions.
Learning Outcomes
Add, subtract, multiply and divide like and unlike terms
Recognize that like terms can be combined and unlike terms represent different values and cannot be combined
Find the value of the expression by substituting the values for each term
Graph the correlation between two variables and use the linear relationship to identify patterns and trends
Apply algebra skills to solve related math problems
