Recognise and describe two dimensional shapes Use measurements of angles and lengths to describe space
Conceptual Framework
Form space, measurement, quantity in the context of globalization and sustainability
Statements of Inquiry
Measurements can help us justify the decisions we make
Factual
How do we measure the area of a shape?
Conceptual
How can we describe space?
Debatable
What is a better measure of space?
How do we best use space to grow produce?
Description
Students will understand how the form of a space can be described by referring to measurements and quantities. In the unit they will propose a sustainable rooftop garden design by exploring patterns and arrangement of rooftop planter boxes.
Learning Outcomes
Sort and identify plane shapes based on their characteristics
Measure and calculate the perimeter of regular and irregular shapes
Measure and calculate the area of simple and compound shapes
Identify the different types of triangles
Investigate the sum of angles in a triangle
Use the sum of angles in a triangle to calculate the sum of angles in regular polygons
Name the types of angles that can be made by 2 straight lines
Convert units for length and width - mm, cm, m, km
